Pastor Glenn Coblentz
August 29, 2010
“…so love the Lord God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence and energy.” Mark 12:30 (MSG)
“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” Romans 12:11 (NIV)
What we treasure reflects our Passion and we are passionate about what we consider our Treasure.
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Matthew 6:21 (NIV)
Motivation is "that which causes action."
“When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus.”
Luke 5:19 (NIV)
We need to be certain that our actions are properly motivated!
"No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.” Luke 16:13 (NIV)
The Goal is to be worshiping and serving God out of love, not obligation, with passion.
“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.”
Psalm 42:1-2a (NIV)
As For Me and My House We Will Serve the LordSunday, August 22, 2010 Enclosure No Sermon Notes. This sermon was preached at Harrison Lake for Day Away. Chose For BlessingSunday, August 08, 2010 Enclosure CHOSEN FOR BLESSING
1 Chronicles 4:9-10
Pastor Brad Faler—August 8, 2010
How can we position ourselves to receive God’s blessings?
1. Ask God to bless you.
“Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, ‘Oh, that you would bless me...’” 1 Chronicles 4:10 (NIV)
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9 (NIV)
“If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him?” Matthew 7:11 (NIV)
“Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12 (NIV)
2. Anticipate God to expand your influence.
“Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, ‘Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory!’” 1 Chronicles 4:10 (NIV)
“I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” John 14:12 (NIV)
“When you take little steps, you don’t need God. It’s when you throw yourself into the mainstream of God’s plans; plans that are beyond our ability to accomplish–and plead with Him, Lord use me–give me more ministry for you–that you release miracles.” -- Bruce Wilkinson
3. Allow God to provide for you.
“As God’s chosen, blessed sons and daughters, we are expected to attempt something large enough that failure is guaranteed...unless God steps in.” — Bruce Wilkinson
“Jabez cried out to the God of Israel...” Let your hand be with me...” 1 Chronicles 4:10 (NIV)
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)
“Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.” 2 Corinthians 3:5(NIV)
“And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19 (NIV)
4. Approach God to bless others.
“Jabez cried out to the God of Israel,.....’Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.’” 1 Chronicles 4:10 (NIV)
“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” Matthew 6:13 (NIV)
“If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.” Philippians 2:1-2 (NIV) Help I'm Choking!Sunday, August 01, 2010 Enclosure Help, I’m choking!
Mark 4:3-20
1. The fruit-bearing potential of the Word is lost immediately. The seed doesn’t even have a chance.
“Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them.” Mark 4:15
Satan tries to keep the Word of God from taking root in our hearts:
· by causing us to be inattentive.
· by using differences among us.
· and through unbelief.
2. The fruit-bearing potential of the Word is lost quickly. It withers due to hardships.
“Others, like seed sown on rocky paces, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.” Mark 4:16-17
3. The fruit-bearing potential of the Word is lost eventually. It is choked out.
“Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.” Mark 4:18-19
The seed that falls on good soil bears fruit eternally. It’s where the seed grows and produces a bountiful, everlasting crop.
“Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop – thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times what was sown.” Mark 4:20
“This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.” John 15:8 Good Memories & Much MoreSunday, July 25, 2010 Enclosure
Good Memories & Much More
Philippians 1:3-11 (Pew Bible page 1161)
Pastor Glenn Steiner-July 25, 2010
1. We Remember …
2. We Experience …
"I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." Philippians 1:3-6
"The stories we tell SET the visions for the future."
"It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart; for whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God's grace with me. God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus."
Philippians 1:7-8
"We are (God’s) ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen." Ritz Carlton Hotel motto.
"I plead with Euodia and I plead with Syntyche to agree with each other in the Lord."
3. We Anticipate …
"And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of rightness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God." Philippians1:9-11
…putting many wheels on God’s mercy and grace by being great leaders and/or helpers that all may know Jesus.
Thank you for the privilege to walk with you at North Clinton Mennonite Church these 22 months. In this wonderful context I am confident that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.

My dear friends take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for one's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. James 1:19.

"STAY RIGHT THERE!"
A Marriage Without Regrets
John 15:1-4
Pastor Brad Faler-June 27, 2010
How can we remain in Jesus?
How can we remain true in our marriages?
1. Accept Jesus as the source of life.
2. Allow Jesus to live His life through you.
3. Adjust your life to the words of Jesus.
4. Aim the glory back to God.
"I am the true vine, and my father is the gardener." John 15:1
"He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful." John 15:2
"You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you." John 15:
"No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me." John 15:4

Parenting Priorities
June 20, 2010
"Oh, that [your] hearts would be inclined to [reverence] me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with [you] and [your] children forever!"
"…bring [your children] up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
"Train a child in the way he should go,
"Children with good sense accept correction from their parents, but stubborn children ignore it."
"Correct your children, and they will be wise; children out of control are a disgrace to their [parents]
Be Confident.
"Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; so he got up… and began to wash His disciples’ feet…"
"I am with you always, to the very end…"
"No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it
Be Controlled.
The last fruit in God’s Holy Spirit’s list that includes "love, joy and peace" is "self-controlled." Galatians 5:23
Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
Young people are prone to foolishness and fads; the cure comes through tough-minded discipline.
Discipline with Consequence rather than with Outbursts.
Be Consistent.
Practice what you preach...clean both the outside and the inside…don’t neglect the important matters.
Values are more caught than taught.
Be Creative.
"I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father."
Prepare your child for the path…not the path for the child.
Be Compassionate.
"When Jesus… saw the crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd…"
"…as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience."
Colossians 3:12Mark 6:34

"Mountaintop Experience"
1 Kings 18:17-19:18
Pastor Wendell Nofziger—June 13, 2010
Displays of God’s power can help to build our faith.
"When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, ‘The LORD-he is God! The LORD-he is God!’" 1 Kings 18:39
It takes more than mountaintop experience "highs" to carry us through the low times in life.
"Elijah was afraid and ran for his life… He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. ‘I have had enough, Lord,’ he said. ‘Take my life.’" 1 Kings 19:3-4
Elijah’s fear-filled "funk" came as a result of his eyes being on himself.
"And the word of the Lord came to him: ‘What are you doing here, Elijah?’ He replied, ‘I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, broken down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.’"
1 Kings 19:9b-10
Sometimes God is not speaking through the "big things" of life as much as the quiet things.
"The Lord said, ‘Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.’ Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper."
1 Kings 19:11-12
Ways to help get out of a spiritual "funk":
Take care of your physical needs (God understands our humanity). (v. 6-7)
Get involved in what God is doing around you. (v. 15-18)
Believe that you are not alone in your struggle toward faith. Trust other believers! (v. 18)
